Auburn’s Exel Inc., a contract logistics business, will lay off 146 workers effective Jan. 29, the company notified the State Employment Security Department.
The layoffs specifically involve 136 part- and full-time workers, including 10 salaried positions, the notice said.
According to a company spokesperson, Exel hopes to entertain a new third-party logistics party to fill the void at the Auburn location.
The company’s layoff notice was Nov. 2.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) act requires companies with 100 or more employees to notify affected workers 60 days prior to closures and layoffs.
