Metro reminds bus riders of upcoming weekdays with reduced service

King County Metro Transit reminds bus riders that it will be operating a reduced weekday schedule on several holidays now through January – including a full week of reduced service at the end of December.

King County Metro Transit reminds bus riders that it will be operating a reduced weekday schedule on several holidays now through January – including a full week of reduced service at the end of December.

These are planned reductions for holiday periods where Metro has historically seen 20-40 percent fewer weekday riders. Also, on several of the upcoming legal holidays, Metro will use a Sunday schedule.

The reduced weekday schedule and regular fares will be in effect on:

• Thursday, Nov. 11 – Veteran’s Day

• Friday, Nov. 26 – day after Thanksgiving

• Friday, Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve

• Monday-Friday, Dec. 27-31 – winter holiday period, including New Year’s Eve

• Monday, Jan. 17 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Sunday schedules and fares will be used on the following holidays:

• Thursday, Nov. 25 – Thanksgiving

• Saturday, Dec. 25 – Christmas

• Saturday, Jan. 1 – New Year’s Day

On days with reduced weekday schedules, some commuter and school-oriented routes do not operate, and other routes will have individual trips canceled. This year, Metro has made some adjustments to routes serving the University of Washington (UW). When the UW is not in session, there will be some trip reductions, but service on these routes will not have any additional trip cuts on the “reduced weekdays.”

Many routes will have no changes. If the route is not listed below, it has no changes when reduced weekday service is in effect.

Routes that are canceled when the reduced weekday schedule is in effect:

2EX, 7EX, 34, 38, 46, 48EX, 53, 76, 77, 79, 114, 152, 157, 161, 162, 175, 192, 196, 201, 210, 219, 237, 243, 247, 250, 256, 260, 261, 266, 268, 304, 308, 316, 355, 600, 661, 925, 930, and 935.

An overview of all the holiday service is online at: http://metro.kingcounty.gov/up/holiday-service.html.

The reduced weekday schedule features more bus service than on weekends, but somewhat less service than on normal weekdays. This schedule is being used on 10 days in 2010, and is estimated to save Metro about $1 million each year.
