Museum, Olson Farm receive $39,100 from grants, donations | Briefs

The White River Valley Museum and Mary Olson Farm recently received grants and donations totaling $39,100. The funds will be applied toward award-winning educational programs, exhibits and final restoration efforts at the farm.

The White River Valley Museum and Mary Olson Farm recently received grants and donations totaling $39,100. The funds will be applied toward award-winning educational programs, exhibits and final restoration efforts at the farm.

The grants received were from 4Culture, the cultural services agency for King County, and totaled $29,000 to fund:

• $18,000 in sustained support for 2012.

• $6,000 in landmarks rehabilitation for the Weaving House located at the farm.

• $5,000 toward a long-term project to inventory and catalog the museum’s archive collection and share it with the public.

Contributions for exhibit and event sponsorships, restoration efforts at the Farm, and free Wednesdays at the museum amounted to $10,100:

• $2,500 from Mountain View Cemetery to sponsor the upcoming exhibit “DEAD: Unearthing the Shift in Funerary Practices from Home to Mortuary,” on display Aug. 13-Nov. 17. The unique exhibit will feature Victorian funerary artifacts that tell the story of handling a death at home, caring for and viewing of the body, mourning rituals and customs and funeral practices.

• $2,000 from Station Bistro to sponsor the Sept. 24 Hops & Crops Harvest Festival at the farm.

• $1,300 from the Auburn Rotary to support the farm.

• $500 from each of these donors provides one month of free Wednesdays at the museum: Columbia Bank;

Nelson Jewelry & Gifts; Paul and Mary Hosoda; Soroptimist International of Auburn; Valley Bank.

• $150 from each of these contributors provides one free Wednesday at the museum: Auburn Sons of Italy; Auburn Sheet Metal and Heating; Ronnie and Rosetta Beyersdorf; Judge Pat Burns; Amy Cook, DDS;

Global Security; Riley and Jean Kuehn; Law Offices of Thomas Campbell; Law Offices of Steven Weier;

Lisa and Way Scarff; Swigart Law Offices, P.S.; and Heather Woloshyn, DMD, MSD and Karen Clements, DDS, MSD (Woloshyn and Clements Orthodontics).

Elsewhere

• The Auburn SuperMall hosts Family Fun Day from noon-4 p.m., Saturday. There will be activities, crafts, games, giveaways and special store offers. Wolf 100.7 will provide music, games and prizes. Visitors can explore a firetruck and visit with firefighters from 1-2:30 p.m. outside Aviation Court. Bring a canned food item and get a SuperMall tote bag filled with special offers from SuperMall stores. All food donations will be benefit the Auburn Food Bank.

• Marshalls at the SuperMall just got a new look. The store makeover features a fresh, more contemporary design with bright, easy-to-shop layout, upgraded dressing rooms and a single-line checkout for faster service. The redesign includes updated fixtures in the apparel and home sections.

The newly formatted store will feature Marshalls Shoe MegaShop, approximately 5,000 square feet, within Marshalls.
