Valley Bank recently promoted Carol Smith to senior vice president at Valley Bank.

Smith’s responsibilities include the commercial lending portfolio in the South King County region.

“Carol is a key part of our lending team, and I am pleased to announce this well-deserved promotion and recognition of Carol’s significant contribution to Valley Bank over the past 16 years,” said David Brown, president and chief executive officer of Valley Bank.

Smith has more than 25 years of banking experience. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in English literature and a master of business administration from the University of Washington.

Smith resides in north Tacoma with her husband, who is a professor at the University of Puget Sound.

Valley Bank, a subsidiary of Valley Community Bancshares, Inc., serves the South King and Eastern Pierce County region of Washington State with eight full-service banking facilities, a mortgage loan production office, and one drive-up facility with assets of $225 Million.

• Thanks to a new partnership with the SuperMall, Communities In Schools of Auburn is collecting new clothes and donations to support the back-to-school effort as part of the Earning for Learning campaign.

Shop or dine at the SuperMall from now unitl Oct. 5 and earn points for the school of choice. The top five schools will win cash prizes. This year, shoppers can earn bonus points for their school when they bring a donation of clothing purchased at the SuperMall or donate $10 or more to Communities In Schools of Auburn.

Those donating a piece of clothing and making a cash donation of $10 or more will be entered to win one of four $25 gift cards. Bring receipts and donations to guest services.

• Emerald Aire, Inc., recently welcomed Mark Howell to its team. Howell has been in the heating and air conditioning industry for more than 35 years, bringing experience as a wholesale warehouse manager, commercial estimator and manufacturer’s representative. He joins Emerald Aire as a residential comfort specialist.

Howell and his wife, Mary, have three grown children.

In Howell’s spare time he enjoys fly fishing, golf, collector antiques, refurbishing his 1951 Chevy pickup.
