The final five films – including the work of aspiring director Kristi L. Simkins of Auburn – from the 100% Pure New Zealand Presents “Your Big Break” film competition now are live at www.your-big-break.com.

Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson will name the overall winner next Friday, March 5.

“Your Big Break” challenged filmmakers from around the globe to capture the spirit of New Zealand in a three-minute script.

Academy Award-winning producer Barrie Osborne (“Lord of the Rings”) and a panel of judges selected the five finalists.

Simkins was one of two from the United States to make the finals, earning a trip to New Zealand. Simkins joined Aya Tanimora (Santa Monica, Calif.), Andrés Borghi (Buenos Aires) and Tim McLachlan and Rajneel Singh (both from Auckland, New Zealand) in the final field of five.

Filmmakers traveled to New Zealand to produce their films with the help of Osborne under a tight production schedule.

Simkins was allowed two days to shoot “Something Special” on location and three weeks to produce her script within a $71,000 budget.

On March 5, the overall winning film will be aired on IFC leading into the IFC Independent Spirit Awards at 8 p.m., PST.
