Auburn Good Ol’ Days Literary Adventures set for this weekend

The Striped Water Poets of Auburn will host Auburn Good ol’ Days Literary Adventures on Saturday and Sunday at the Auburn Avenue Theater, 10 Auburn Avenue.

The Striped Water Poets of Auburn will host Auburn Good ol’ Days Literary Adventures on Saturday and Sunday at the Auburn Avenue Theater, 10 Auburn Avenue.

Readings and programs will be held throughout both days. The event, sponsored by Boeing Employees Credit Union, is free and open to the public.

Theater lobby events include a book fair and small press fair.

The schedule follows:

SATURDAY

Adventures in Literature

10-11 a.m. – Open mic poetry. The master of ceremonies is Gerald A. McBreen, coordinator of the Striped Water Poets, Pacific poet laureate, poet laureate Auburn Morning Toastmasters.

12-1:30 p.m. – Poets join the Good Ol’ Days Parade.

2 p.m. – Robert Blevins, Auburn hometown author and publisher of Adventure Books. “Into The Blast – The True Story of D.B. Cooper”, a nonfiction presenting the case that Kenneth Christiansen of Bonney Lake, a former Army paratrooper and employee of Northwest Airlines, was the famous skyjacker.

2:30 p.m. – Gerry Bradley is sometimes referred to as the Tom Brokaw of the everyday person. In his Chit-Chat Cafe series, he finds the gold nugget in the lives of what are otherwise considered undistinguished people. He will introduce the second book of the series, “Tripping Over the Track”.

2:45 p.m. – David Ash, author and publisher of Basho Press, wasn’t worried that his first haiku (poem) was published under the influence and inspiration of Matsuo Basho. Haiku is about the journey, and he will talk about the journey of haiku publishing.

3 p.m. – Donnie Berry, Auburn Good Ol’ Days Queen and member of the Auburn Morning Toastmasters, will present a speech inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou: “I am a Phenomenal Woman and I am not Giving My Black Back.”

3:15 p.m. – Bradley with more on Chit-Chat-Cafe.

3:30 p.m. – Jim Teeters, author, poet, teacher, pastor. In “Going Intergenerational, All Ages Learning Bible Truths Together”, Teeters asks, “Can children and adults study the bible together?” He thinks they can and he thinks they should.

3:45 p.m. – Donna Lee Anderson, poet, author, columnist. Anderson writes stories for children, romance novels for adults and story poems for everyone. Her current manuscript, “Project Emily” and “Just A Visit”, is set in a retirement home on a mythical island in the Puget Sound.

4 p.m. – David D. Horowitz, winner of the Poets West Achievement Award, 2005.

Publisher of Rose Alley Press featuring Pacific Northwest’s finest poets. His second anthology, “Many Trails to the Summit”, is due out in October, and includes the work of 42 poets.

4:15 p.m. – Open mic poetry.

4:30 p.m. – Gerry Bradley with more “Yarns From the Heart” and “Tripping Over the Track”. Also, crossword puzzles by award-winning Len Elliot (NorthWest Prime Time and Auburn Reporter).

SUNDAY

Poets on Parade

10 a.m.-noon – Chris Jarmick will serve as master of ceremonies; short-forms workshop presented by Michael Dylan Welch.

Noon-1 p.m. – Featured poets: Peter Ludwin, Lisa Schmidt, Marjorie Rommel

1-2 p.m. – Featured poets: Don Kentop, Lorraine Healy, Paul Nelson.

2-3 p.m. – Featured poets: Michael Welch, Anita Boyle, Elizabeth Austen.

3-5 p.m. – Open mic poetry contest. Prizes include poetic goodie basket and cash.
