Auburn High cast to perform ‘South Pacific’

The Auburn High School Actors’ Guild is performing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical classic, “South Pacific.”

The first of seven performances begins at 7:30 p.m. today at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Main St.

The cast also will perform Friday and Saturday, and again March 12-14. The musical will begin each night at 7:30. There also is a 2 p.m. sing-along matinee on March 14.

The performance is under the direction of instructors Warren Kerr and Pamela Bolen.

Although well known for its extraordinary score — the songs include “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Younger Than Springtime”, “Bali Ha’i”, “There is Nothin’ Like A Dame”, and “A Wonderful Guy” — South Pacific also is a deeply felt drama. Its portrayal of Americans stationed in an alien culture in wartime is as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949.

Tickets are available at the door: $8 general admission, $6 discount (students and children, seniors 60 and over, active military).
