Professor Tom Meyer – known nationally for his commitment to the ancient art of Bible memorization – performs Genesis chapters 1-11 at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Lakeland Bible Church, 34860 37th Ave. S., Auburn.

The event is free and open to the public.

Meyer, a member of Wordsower International Ministries, is touring the country, speaking complete books of the Bible dramatically from memory.

“We live in a copy-paste-Facebook-Tweet-follow-forget kind of world,” Meyer said.

Meyer says because Bibles are so readily available on bookshelves, computers and mobile devices, people have forgotten an important lesson.

“People are of the opinion that if they have so many copies of the Bible at home, why put it in my heart?” he said. “In antiquity, the greatest virtue was to put the Bible in your heart.”

Meyer learned the ancient art of memorization while living in Jerusalem and exploring the Holy Land the last four years. Meyer memorized more than 10 books of the Bible verbatim and speaks them from memory dramatically as a profession, such as the entire book of Revelation.

He is earning a master’s degree in archeology of the Holy Land.

In addition to his memorization of the Bible, Meyer has written books on the art as well as books on Bible archaeology.
