Algona house fire displaces six people

A fire heavily damaged an Algona home on Thursday morning, displacing six people, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.

A fire heavily damaged an Algona home on Thursday morning, displacing six people, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.

Four adults and two young children – and the family dog – were not injured. The American Red Cross was on the scene to help the family with temporary housing and immediate needs.

A resident of the home – located in the 400 block of Warde Street – reported the fire to 911 at 11:12 a.m. Responding VRFA firefighters saw heavy black smoke coming from the home upon their arrival. With help from South King Fire and Rescue, Kent Fire Department and King County Medic One, they were able to extinguish the flames in 30 minutes.

The second floor of the 1,860-square-foot home was heavily damaged, while the first floor sustained moderate smoke and water damage.

The fire is under investigation.
