The Special Olympics Golf Tournament is “going green” this year.

The Special Olympics Golf Tournament is “going green” this year.

The tournament, called the Auburn 500, will tee off Sept. 15 at the Auburn Golf Course, 29630 Green River Road, and features a two-person best ball in the morning and four-person scramble in the afternoon. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Special Olympics programs and its 8,000 athletes, as well as South County Outreach.

The two-person event will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a 1:30 p.m. tee-off for the four-man groups. A dinner banquet and awards ceremony will follow the action.

Tournament organizers are seeking sponsors, players and donors.

By “going green,” the tournament is focusing on events and experiences, rather than physical items, as auction items, door prizes and raffle items.

Individuals and businesses can donate a gift certificate, event tickets, gift cards or similar type items.
