Puyallup’s Spring Fair: April 14-17, Puyallup Fairgrounds, 110 9th Ave. SW,. Entertainment, garden show, monster trucks, science fair, Northwest Junior Rodeo, rides, food, animal exhibits and more. Thursday racing is offered July 14-Aug. 25, and Monday holiday racing is set for May 30, July 4 and Sept. 5. A 29-race stakes schedule features five doubleheaders and the 76th running of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (Grade III) on Aug. 21. Pacific Parks Pick-up Plus: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., April 16. City of Pacific celebrates Earth Day with a community-wide cleanup effort. Activities include trash pickup from city parks, trails and open spaces, with individual and team competitions determined by the amount of debris accumulated. A volunteer appreciation lunch begins at 12:30 p.m., along with a kids art contest. Healthy Kids Day: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., April 16, Auburn Valley YMCA, 1620 Perimeter Road SW. The Y invites kids and families from the community to participate in a national event to promote youth health and wellness. The pirate-themed event will feature more than 50 different activities for kids, plus health and wellness resources for families. The first 100 kids will receive a free T-shirt, the first 75 families will receive a free laptop bag. A free 10-minute massage will be offered to parents. Gene Juarez is providing free haircuts for boys and girls. There also will be a drawing for a free one-year family membership. Many other prizes will be given away. Both days will be full of art activities for all ages, music and performances as well as wine tasting with local wineries. Concert for Cullen: 7:30 p.m., April 1, Kent First Church of the Nazarene, 903 E. James St., Kent). Breath of Aire, an 80-member choral group, will perform. Proceeds to benefit the family of Cullen Steele, an 11-year-old Kent boy and Auburn student who needs a double lung-heart transplant. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association has raised $50,000, but still needs more donations to reach its goal for the transplant-related expenses for the Steele family. Second annual Seahawks 12K Run at The Landing: 7:30-11 a.m., April 10, The Landing, 828 N. 10th Place, Renton. A benefit for the Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club. The 12K route offers a run along the southeast shore of Lake Washington and around the Seahawks training facility, the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. The Federal Way & Auburn Boys and Girls Club and EX3 Teen Center’s 19th annual Breakfast for Kids fundraiser: 7:30 a.m., April 12, Emerald Downs, 2300 Emerald Downs Drive, Auburn. Seattle Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik is the keynote speaker. Proceeds go to student scholarships as well as educational, cultural and sports programs that benefit more than 3,500 deserving youth in South King County. Attendees are asked to make a contribution. “I Am An Artist” Professional Development workshop: April 9-10. Presented by the City of Auburn, in partnership with Artist Trust. Intensive symposium is a great way for artists to jump-start or refresh their creative careers. The class will be taught by Miriam Works, who since 1993 has consulted on businesses and marketing with creative artists, small businesses, museums and non-profits, alongside several guest speakers. The class teaches artists to present and promote themselves professionally, create a business plan, approach for-profit and non-profit markets for funding and support, and develop an effective web presence. Merchants league: The Auburn Golf Course is now accepting signups for a new golf league for area merchants. The season will last from the beginning of May through August. While designed for merchants, a business affiliation is not required to form a team.  17-week league season on Mondays and Tuesdays, May 2-Aug. 23.  Weekly tee times: 4 p.m. – 5:52 p.m. Four-person team, 9-hole medal play format with handicaps. If you need help with your taxes, free help is available in Auburn for those making less than $50,000 per year and those over 50 years of age. Help with Spanish and Tagalog speaking clients also is available.  No appointment is necessary and agents will be available through April 15. Quality Tax preparation is provided by IRS-certificated, multilingual volunteers. This is a free service for households making less than $50,000; citizenship not necessary and electronic filling will be utilized for faster refunds. Those interested in the tax preparation assistance should bring all applicable tax forms and a bank account number (checking or savings) to have your refund directly deposited into your account. Service is only for basic tax returns only (no business taxes, rental income or sale of property or stock). For more information on the United Way Tax Preparation Program, call 206-349-9337.
