In February, Washington dentists statewide offered free dental care to low-income children. Education and instruction was provided, with screenings, cleanings, X-rays and fillings available wherever possible, and referrals for those who needed further care.

Dr. John Carpenter of Auburn did his part in joining the cause. He provided free comprehensive dental examinations on Thursday to support the Washington Oral Health Foundation Boys & Girls Club Initiative.

The Auburn Boys & Girls Club provided transportation to Dr. Carpenter’s office.

Dental cavities are on the rise among pre-schoolers (ages 2-5) for the first time in 50 years because less than half of those children have seen a dentist in the past year.

“Dentists right here in Auburn see the problem of tooth decay and oral health every day,” Dr. Carpenter said. “While many of us regularly donate our services to help low-income families, today we are donating our services to the children of South King County in order to serve this critical need and increase public awareness about good oral health.”
