Auburn High School students Shawna Holzworth and Krista Wagner took fourth place in the design category at the Imagine Tomorrow competition held last month at Washington State University.

Imagine Tomorrow is an annual problem-solving competition that challenges students to overcome real-world obstacles in order to find new ways to support alternative energy.

Holzworth and Wagner’s project, “What’s Lighting Your Streets,” designed a way to help budget-strapped, go-green-conscious city officials by converting incandescent street lights in one town into LED lights. Such a move saves communities money as well as decreases the carbon footprint.

The fourth-place prizes are $1,000 for the team and $1,000 for the school.
