The Washington Chapter of DECA selected Auburn High senior McKenna Wall as the DECA member of the year.

Auburn DECA advisor Lori Jacobs nominated Wall for this award, which was presented at the state career development conference last month. The award recognizes a student who has gone above and beyond in support of their DECA chapter, school and community.

Wall has qualified for Washington State DECA competition all four years in high school and has worked on numerous projects. She has competed in written projects on public relations, CAPS, community service and Learn and Earn.

Last year she qualified for the International DECA Conference in Georgia for the Community Service event. With her partner, Wall led a project for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, raising $3,200 to send four MDA students to summer camp.

This year Wall and her partner established an international corporation and led the chapter in the process of importing and exporting products with a partner school in Beijing. This project provided a broad view of international business and the accompanying challenges and opportunities.

Wall is the school’s DECA president and together with the officer team planned, organized and implemented a wide variety of activities. Some of the activities included a DECA Fall Leadership Conference, a community service project for the Gilda House, a toothbrush drive for Ronald McDonald House, the food drive and career conferences at the middle schools.

“McKenna has an extraordinary sense of responsibility,” Jacobs said. “Her work ethic is outstanding, and she has the self-discipline to maintain outstanding academic status while maintaining a well-balanced, extra-curricular schedule. She is dedicated to her school and works to make the school environment more welcoming to students and staff.”

In addition to her accomplishments in DECA, Wall is captain of her soccer team, a member of Troy Crew and is involved with the National Honor Society. She hopes to attend the University of Washington Foster School of Business and major in international studies.

More than 12,000 students in Washington belong to DECA.
