Officers from the Auburn Police Department participated in the annual Tip-A-Cop fundraiser on April 12 at the Auburn Red Robin restaurant on behalf of the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics of Washington.

Officers took orders, served food and participated in other in-store events on their way to raising $3,700 for Special Olympics – a new record, beating the 2007 total by more than $1,000

The Auburn Police Department was the No. 1 fundraising agency in King County for 2007 with more than $46,000 dollars being raised. After Saturday’s event, the 2008 total has surpassed the $20,000 mark. The goal for 2008 is $60,000.

The next event will be a Roof-Top Cop fundraiser at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, 1900 1st Ave S., Seattle, on May 2-4. Officers will be camping on the rooftop of the store with other officers on the ground in order to raise awareness for Special Olympics.

Free doughnuts and items will be offered for various levels of donations. Also, for a small donation, customers can toss water balloons at the officers on the roof.

There also will be a Special Olympics Washington golf tournament on Sept. 15 at the Auburn Golf Course.
