The Auburn Police Department has located the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Saturday at 9:25 p.m. in the 1200 block of Auburn Way South.

The owner of a pickup truck contacted Auburn police regarding the incident. The owner reported that her 18-year-old daughter was driving the truck in Auburn during the time frame of the incident.

After the daughter returned home, she told her mother that she may have struck an object or debris in the roadway. The information was dismissed since there was no visible damage to the truck. It wasn’t until the mother and daughter observed media accounts of the fatality; they realized the truck might be involved.

They contacted the police right away. Both individuals have cooperated with investigators.

Based on a forensic examination of the truck, investigators concluded the truck made contact with the victim.

Evidence collected at the scene, witness accounts and autopsy results indicate the victim, 27-year-old Sheena Watchman, already was down and at least partially in the traveled portion of the roadway near the curb. This is consistent with evidence located on the truck, police said.

The final autopsy and toxicology reports will not be available for several weeks. Once the case file is completed, it will be forwarded to the King County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
