Emily Hill, a student at Auburn Riverside High School, served as a legislative page in the state House of Representatives the week of March 18. She was sponsored by 31st District Rep. Cathy Dahlquist, R-Enumclaw.

The 14-year-old is the daughter of Dan and Angela Hill of Auburn. Emily enjoys sports and plays fast pitch softball and volleyball.

“As a parent, sponsoring students to come to Olympia and learn more about what it means to be a legislator and how our decisions impact the lives of all Washingtonians is something I really enjoy,” Dahlquist said. “I know the students who participate in the page program remember the experience for the rest of their lives.”

As part of her duties in the Legislature, Emily delivered documents to lawmakers and attended page school where she learned more about how state government operates. Students also sponsor mock legislation which they attempt to convince other pages from around the state to support.

Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the weekly legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents. At this point in the 2013 legislative session, a few more page opportunities are available.
