Jessica Fletcher, a 15-year-old sophomore at Auburn Riverside High School, has been chosen as a People to People Ambassador.

Fletcher will be traveling to France, Italy and Greece with other high school students from the area.

Fletcher was nominated by a former teacher and went through an interview process before her selection. The program, established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, provides international educational opportunities and cultural experiences for students.

Fletcher, daughter of Ruth and Jim Fletcher, is a top student, having received many honors.

A talented musician, she participates in her school marching band, woodwind ensemble, has been in the Bella Voce Choir and is in the pit orchestra for this year’s school play. She also is active in her church, participating in the adult bell and vocal choirs. She is a talented writer and has been a first-place recipient in the Good ‘Ol Days Youth Art Show.

In addition, Fletcher has crocheted helmet liners for troops in Iraq, helped with Good O’ Day activities and participated in the Relay for Life and Veteran’s Day parades.

In order to raise funds for Fletcher’s trip, the family will be hosting “A Night of Music” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at

the Auburn First United Methodist Church, 100 N St. SE, Auburn. Fletcher will be performing flute solos, singing, and will introduce other soloists, ensembles and instrumentalists.

There is no admission for the program, but donations will be gladly accepted.
