Auburn School Board to recognize outstanding staff member

The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Svetlana Marar, custodian at Lea Hill Elementary, as the outstanding staff member of the month at Monday’s board meeting.

Marar has worked for the school district for 10 years. She began as a substitute custodian, worked at Rainier and Cascade middle schools and has been at Lea Hill for five years.

“Svetlana is such an amazing addition to our school and brightens everyone’s day,” Lea Hill teacher Gina Cardenas said.

Marar moved to Auburn from Ukraine 15 years ago. Her husband of 20 years, Veniamin, also works for the district. They have two daughters, one a senior at Auburn High, and a fifth-grader at Lake View.

The school district also will recognize Fatoumata Fadiga, a fifth-grader at Terminal Park Elementary, as the outstanding Student of the Month at Monday’s board meeting.

Fadiga, who has attended Terminal Park since kindergarten, is a true leader. She is the ASB president and participates in elementary orchestra.

“We are so lucky to have such an outstanding young lady at our school,” Principal Mike Weibel said.
