Auburn student to attend leadership conference for college women

Brittne Lunniss from Pacific Lutheran University will attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders June 2-4.

Hosted by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, the conference offers women students the opportunity to gain real-world lessons during a fast-paced, 2½-day event focused on enhancing student leadership.

“I am honored and thankful that the Tacoma AAUW selected me as a scholarship recipient after reviewing my application,” said Lunniss, a sophomore political science and sociology major at PLU. She is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. “I hope to gain leadership skills, network with incredible professionals and acquire knowledge that I can share with the students of PLU.”

Since 1985, the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders has provided a platform to help thousands of college and university women develop leadership skills, network with other student leaders and interact with women who hold leadership positions.

This year’s conference will feature internationally known speakers, the star-studded Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony and workshops. Now in its 26th year, the conference is expected to draw more than 500 campus leaders to the University of Maryland, College Park.

A highlight of the conference, the Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony pays tribute to women leaders who have made extraordinary contributions in their professions or in their communities. This year?s awards will be presented on Thursday, June 2, to the following individuals:

• Swanee Hunt, former ambassador, founder and former director of Harvard University?s Women and Public Policy Program, and president of Hunt Alternatives Fund

• Connie Chung, Emmy-winning broadcast journalist

• Lisa Jackson, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator

• Natalie Randolph, Calvin Coolidge Senior High School varsity football head coach

• Marsha Guenzler-Stevens, University of Maryland, College Park, student union director
