Auburn teachers receive National Board certification

Seven teachers in the Auburn School District earned National Board certification. They are: Sarah Samuelson, Treena Daniels, Sharon Thompson Saito, Deanna Tompkins, Sue Hovde, Heather Hartley and Teri Churchill.

Seven teachers in the Auburn School District earned National Board certification. They are: Sarah Samuelson, Treena Daniels, Sharon Thompson Saito, Deanna Tompkins, Sue Hovde, Heather Hartley and Teri Churchill.

The certification process is a symbol of professional teaching excellence.

Certification is optional to anyone with a baccalaureate degree and three years of classroom experience in either a public or private school, and it complements, but does not replace, state licensing.

Teachers who participate must pass a rigorous, two-part assessment.

Western Washington University student Rocky White, son of Kenny White and Martha Robayo of Auburn, received a $2,000 Steven Globerman International Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. The scholarship is awarded to a College of Business and Economics undergraduate or graduate student. White, a senior, is majoring in management and international business, and is a member of the Sigma Iota Epsilon National Management Society. He is also a competitive mountain bike racer. …

Chris Wilson, Auburn Riverside High School business and marketing teacher, wrote an article discussing the success of the “Raven’s Nest,” the student store at Auburn Riverside High School, in the national publication DECA Dimensions. Wilson describes the student store as an ideal way for business and marketing students to explore the real world of retail sales. …

Olympic Middle School recently added the

“Cougar Rec Room” recreation facility for students and community. The room holds four air hockey tables, four foosball tables, four Ping-Pong tables, four double-shot basketball games, and three dance revolution games and monitors. The recreation facility was made possible by generous community contributions and donations.
