A South King County initiative to help end homelessness – engineered by Auburn Youth Resources, Kent Youth and Family Services, and Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation – received the 2011 Evergreen Award from the Alliance of Nonprofits.

The agencies’ Coming Up initiative provides a 30-unit scattered site housing program for homeless young adults (ages 18-24) living in South King County. The program combines AYR’s outreach and housing case management services with VCCC’s housing services and KYFS’ mental health and substance abuse services.

The three partnering organizations worked together with other stakeholders over the course of a year to develop, “A Plan to End Young Adult Homelessness in King County,” as part of the Youth and Young Adult Sub-Committee of the Committee to End Homelessness in King County.

Representatives from the three organizations will be presented with the award at the 17th annual Washington State Nonprofit Conference on May 6 at Bellevue’s Meydenbauer Center.
