Freshman Cecelia Legg, a student at Fife’s Columbia Junior High School, paged for one week in the House of Representatives during the regular legislative session, which adjourned April 22. She was sponsored by her 47th District state Rep. Mark Hargrove.

“I’m pleased Cecelia had the opportunity to watch the Legislature in action and learn so much,” said Hargrove, R-Covington. “The page program is great because it encourages young people see the value in community service and the different ways they can lend their talents to the service of others.”

During her week in Olympia, Legg, the daughter of Douglas and Kim Legg of Auburn, attended page school daily to understand the operations and actions of the Legislature. At the end of the week, Legg wrote and promoted a mock bill addressing high school dropout rates.

The 15-year-old also served an important role in the Legislature delivering documents to legislators and staff on the floor of the House and throughout the capitol campus.

Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents.
