Bird viewing tower at Auburn Environmental Park to close temporarily

The City of Auburn's bird and wildlife observation tower located in the Auburn Environmental Park, 413 Western Ave. NW, will be temporarily closed from July 25-Sept. 30.

The City of Auburn’s bird and wildlife observation tower located in the Auburn Environmental Park, 413 Western Ave. NW, will be temporarily closed from July 25-Sept. 30.

The closure is necessary to allow construction of the wetlands trail boardwalk project, which will begin on Aug. 1.

When complete, the wetlands boardwalk will provide a nearly 1,200-foot pedestrian trail via an elevated wooden boardwalk through the 115-acre Park’s wetlands that will connect the bird and wildlife observation tower constructed by the City in 2009 with a new park entrance to be constructed on the north side of West Main Street, just west of the intersection at Lund Road Southwest.

Funding for the Auburn Environmental Park wetlands boardwalk project and a habitat enhancement native planting project scheduled for fall 2011 has been provided in part by a Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program Urban Wildlife Habitat grant awarded to the City of Auburn by the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board.
