Briefly | August 10

A correction and notice of several upcoming events.

CORRECTION: In the article, “Enumclaw council gives thumbs-up to start preliminary community center design”, publised Aug. 3, it was reported both community center options considered by the city council had gym space — one a high school-sized gym, and the other an elementary school-sized gym. This is incorrect: the second option only considered room for a small exercise room, not a larger gym. The online article has been updated.

SENIOR PICNIC: All area seniors age 55 and older are invited the a Senior Picnic on Aug. 18 on Cole Street, hosted by the Enumclaw Senior Center and Rotary Club. The picnic runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the big tent downtown, located at 1622 Cole Street. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. with no fee, and there will be bingo — with prizes — at 1 p.m. Van service is available; call 360-825-4741 for more information, and RSVP by August 11.

MEETINGS FOR AIRPORT COMMISSION UPCOMING: Two virtual public Zoom meetings have been scheduled for the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission (CACC), the body created by the state legislature tasked with recommending an option for the region’s airport needs. The first will be Aug. 23 at 12 p.m., and the second on Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. You can find and bookmark the links to attend both attached to this story online. An online open house will be held from Aug. 15 through Sept. 9, a link to which will be posted next week when it opens. The CACC was briefed in June about a number of potential “greenfield” sites for a new airport, including a hypothetical site in Enumclaw. The CACC has made no recommendations so far.

SCHRIER CANVASS EVENT: Legislative District 31 Democrats are hosting a canvass event at Marion Grange Hall (27725 Sumner-Buckley Hwy, Buckley 98321) on Aug. 14 to kick off the all-important second half of the 2022 mid-term campaign season.
