Comcast gives back, tidies up the Valley Y

Nearly 250 Comcast employees, family and friends converged on the Auburn Valley YMCA last Saturday to create a new outdoor summer camp area, spruce up the current camp area and make a number of other improvements to the facilities and grounds.

Volunteers at Comcast Cares Day event: spread 20 yards of bark around the YMCA’s perimeter; added more than 30 yards of play chips to the YMCA’s large climbing tower; added more than 10 yards of top soil to four raised garden beds; planted strawberries and vegetables in the raised beds for campers to harvest; planted flowers in numerous large planters and 60 small planters; painted more than 1,300 feet of yellow curbing; painted and stenciled more than 15 handicap parking spaces; prepared indoor areas for the national YMCA Healthy Kids Day event set for Saturday; and assembled 150 lunch tote packs with water bottles and sunglasses to be given to summer campers.

Work at the YMCA was one of about 30 projects done throughout the state last Saturday, involving more than 3,000 Comcast NBCUniversal volunteers, family and friends.
