King County’s Solid Waste Division will host three workshops over the next three months to review the Solid Waste Transfer and Waste Management Plan for upgrading the regional transfer system.
The idea is to determine what changes may be required to the Transfer Plan as a result of events of the last few years, including the decline in solid waste tonnage resulting from the economic downturn and the possible changes to participants in the solid waste system after 2028.
On July 8, 2013, the Metropolitan King County Council adopted Ordinance Number 17619 requiring this review, which supports the expressed intent of many stakeholders.
The review of the Transfer Plan will include consideration of the Level of Service criteria used to evaluate transfer facilities, incremental cost impacts of the number and capacity of transfer stations, and other significant elements of the configuration of facilities and solid waste services that will be provided in King County for decades into the future.
Ordinance Number 17619 requires that a draft report detailing the recommendations resulting from the review process be transmitted to the Metropolitan King County Council and all stakeholders by October 9, 2013, with transmittal of the final report on November 27, 2013.
In order to complete this work, the following workshops have been planned:
• Friday, July 26, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Thursday, August 22, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
