Decision day for Auburn voters in mayoral primary

Auburn voters will choose today which two of four candidates for mayor, Mayor Pete Lewis, businesswoman Shelley Erickson, Councilwoman Virginia Haugen or locksmith Frank Lonergan, will make the final cut for the Nov. 3 general election.

Early returns are expected after 8 p.m. today.

Auburn voters also will help decide the two names that appear on the general election ballot for county executive: Larry Phillips, Fred Jarrett, Stan Lippmann, Alan Lobdell, Susan Hutchison, Dow Constantine, Ross Hunter or Goodspaceguy.

Today’s primary is mail-only and ballots in their signed ballot envelopes must be postmarked today or put in a special drop box in front of the Auburn Library at 1102 Auburn Way S. by 8 p.m. Ballots placed in drop boxes don’t need a stamp.

Anyone who has not received a ballot or has misplaced theirs or who has a question about their registration or the primary may visit www.kingcounty.gov/elections or call (206) 296-8683.

Voters can check to see if and when their ballot arrived at the King County Elections’ office by using the county’s online mail ballot-tracker feature, which reports each ballot’s journey at three different checkpoints.

To use the service, voters should enter their first and last name and birthday at http://info.kingcounty.gov/elections/mailballottracking.aspx. The Web site pulls information from several steps in the tabulation process and lets voters track their ballot at three locations to confirm the following:

1. Their ballot packet was assembled and delivered to the U.S.P.S. by Elections.

2. King County received their returned ballot packet.

3. Their signature was verified and they will be credited with voting.
