A fire destroyed a large workshop building at 29703 134th Ave. SE early Friday morning.

No one was in the building and no firefighters were hurt.

Investigators are sifting the ruins for clues to the cause.

A neighbor saw flames and smoke coming from the approximately 5,000-square-foot, two-story workshop building and called 911 at 4:19 a.m. Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters arrived within minutes and found the building fully involved in flames.

Firefighters used water from the tanks of the first-arriving fire engines until they could lay a hose to the nearest fire hydrant, a quarter-mile away. A water tender from the Kent Fire Department also helped with water supply.

More than 20 fire personnel responded to the fire.

Fire investigators estimated the damage at $300,000 for both the structure and contents. The destroyed contents included a large amount of construction materials, tools and at least six automobiles.

The contents of the building were uninsured.

Property tax records show Fedor and Lyubov Matsola bought the property in 2007, and Ing Bank FSB foreclosed on it last April.
