An elderly man and his dog escaped from a travel trailer fire Friday, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.
Neither the man nor the dog was hurt, but the travel trailer they were staying in, located in the 300 block of 4th Avenue North in Algona, is a total loss. A nearby home sustained minor heat damage to the exterior.
A neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke and flames coming from the approximately 25-foot trailer at 12:37 p.m. When VRFA crews arrived they found the trailer fully engulfed in flames and threatening a home located less than 10 feet away from the trailer.
Three engines, a ladder truck and one aid unit quickly extinguished the flames and kept the nearby home from catching fire.
The fire is currently under investigation.
The man and his dog are staying with friends.
