Empty Bowls, a benefit for the Auburn Food Bank, returns April 29 to Grace Community Church, 1320 Auburn Way S.

The community is invited to have lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and raise money and awareness for the fight against hunger.

Artisans have made pottery, wood and ceramic bowls, symbolizing the very real daily occurrence that there are “empty bowls” in homes in the community.

Empty Bowls is a grassroots event that began 25 years ago, led by Imagine Render, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create positive and lasting change through the arts, education and projects that build community.

The Auburn Food Bank began Empty Bowls in 2011.

Green River College potters and art students Leah Boehm, Elinor Maroney, Arron Filson, Kay Filson and Woodworkers Guild came on board right away and have continued to donate their artwork to the fundraiser. Since that time, the event has added other artists and Krazy Klay Ceramics.

Purchase a bowl of your choice then enjoy a soup lunch. Local restaurants and school culinary programs are donating soups. Local high school students will be on hand to serve lunch.

Cost is $15 donation per bowl.
