Fire Authority responded

to 163 calls for service between Aug. 25 and Aug. 31, among them the following:

Aug. 25

Automatic fire alarm: 12:21 p.m., (Lea Hill). Proceeding to a report of a residential smoke detector that was chirping intermittently near Green River Community College, Engine 34 found the sound was coming from the second-story roof. After setting a ladder up, personnel found a smoke detector in the gutter. Engine 34 advised the residents of the importance of smoke detectors and showed them the proper way to change a battery.

Aug. 26

Motorcycle accident: 10:54 p.m., (Algona). VRFA units responded to a motorcycle accident. A motorcycle had been found along the roadway and a search found the rider in dense blackberry bushes 15 feet below and partially in a water drainage ditch. The rider was pulled out of the bushes using ground ladders, immobilized, treated, and then transported to Harborview Medical Center via ambulance.

Aug. 27

Jockey pitched: 7:30 a.m., (Auburn). Aid 31 responded to Emerald Downs for an injured jockey. The race horse had fallen over the rail, throwing the jockey to the ground. The jockey was complaining of shoulder and arm injuries and was treated and transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center by ambulance. The horse was not hurt.

Aug. 28

Ill man: 11:05 a.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to an ill man suffering from the side effects of radiation treatment. He was treated at the scene and transported to Valley Medical Center by AMR.

Aug. 29

Fire alarm: 1:50 p.m., (Algona). Engine 38 responded to a Boundary Boulevard business for an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival, VRFA personnel learned that a cooling system problem had overflowed into the fire alarm panel, short circuiting said alarm. Engine 38 silenced the fire alarm and turned the scene over to maintenance personnel.

Aug. 30

Aid call: 12:02 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responded to the Muckleshoot Casino to help a woman complaining of numbness in her left arm, tongue, and lips. Upon arrival, Engine 32 found a woman with a history of panic attacks but with all vital signs within normal limits. The woman refused any transport and was left at the scene.

Aug. 31

CPR: 1:43 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA responded to a reported CPR. VRFA personnel arrived and found an unconscious individual with a gastro-intestinal bleed. Personnel and Medic 6 treated, stabilized, and transported the person to ARMC.
