responded to 216 calls for service between June 16 and June 22, among them the following:

June 16

Car accident: 6:15 a.m., (Auburn). Aid 32 and Engine 32 responded to an accident involving a car and motorcycle. The driver of the car was uninjured, but the motorcyclist was not so lucky so he was treated and transported in an ambulance to Auburn Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

June 17

Injuries from a fall: 4:09 p.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to a report of injuries from a fall in Pacific. An elderly man who had been cleaning a structure had climbed out onto his carport, which had no frame support, whereupon the metal roofing gave way and the man fell through, hitting a car below then rolling off and striking the ground. Despite the potential for serious injuries, the man had no major medical problems beyond localized impact injuries. VRFA personnel treated him and an ambulance took him away to ARMC.

June 18

Dumpster fire: (Auburn) Engine 32 responded to a dumpster fire in an open field next to the Muckleshoot Tribal fireworks stands. Engine 32 found a Dumpster and the surrounding rubbish ablaze. Engine 32 used a hose line to snuff out the fire and turned the scene over to Muckleshoot Security.

June 19

Vehicle vs. bicycle: (Algona). VRFA units and King County Medic 6 responded to the 100 Block of Algona Boulevard to a young man who had collided with a moving car while he was riding his bicycle. The boy was treated at the scene for possible head and spine injuries and transported in stable condition to ARMC by ambulance.

June 20

Drowning: 6:39 a.m., (Lake Meridian – Kent) VRFA’s Dive 31 was dispatched as part of a Zone 3 water rescue response to a possible drowning at Lake Meridian. Water rescue personnel recovered a teenage boy from the lake in approximately eight to nine feet of water. King County Medic One treated the youth and transported him in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center.

Car accident in water: 10:45 p.m., (Des Moines). VRFA’s Dive 31 was dispatched as part of a Zone 3 water rescue response to the Des Moines pier to help South King Fire and Rescue deal with an occupied car in the water. Water rescue personnel successfully removed an unconscious elderly woman from the vehicle, but unfortunately she died at the scene.

June 21

Assault: 9:29 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 32 and Aid 32 responded to an assault and found Auburn police at the scene a man with an arm laceration, the aftermath of a disagreement with his mother. The man was stable, and after his arm was bandaged he refused any further assistance. Then followed an altercation with VRFA personnel and APD officers, which resulted in an invitation to spend some time in the Auburn jail.

June 22

Heart attack: 2:30 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 32 arrived to find an elderly woman experiencing indigestion and nausea while gardening. Medic 6 was dispatched to assist with treatment. VRFA personnel performed a twelve lead electrocardiogram and determined the woman was suffering a heart attack. She was stabilized and taken by ambulance to ARMC.
