Fire & rescue blotter | Aug. 7

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 280 calls for service between July 27 and Aug. 2, among them the following:

July 27

Aid call: 8:33 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 32 responded to a girl who had fallen from her bicycle after losing control while riding over a gravel area near the roadway. The girl had been wearing a helmet and received only minor abrasions to her right arm, leg, and foot. Firefighters released her to her mother.

July 28

Drowning: 4:22 p.m., (Federal Way). The VRFA and the Renton Fire Department’s water rescue technicians searched the swim area of Steel Lake Park for more than an hour for a reported drowning victim. They found no one, and turned the scene over to King County Sheriff’s divers.

July 30

Aid call: 11:22 a.m., (Lea Hill). Valley Com dispatched Engine 34 to a 79-year-old man suffering from heat exhaustion. Firefighters examined the man cooled him down with frozen bags, and American Medical Response transported him to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

July 31

Motor vehicle accident: 2:59 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a possible injury accident on Highway 167, south of Pacific. Firefighters found a woman suffering from a heat-related illness, treated her and transported her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Aug. 1

Propane leak: 5:14 p.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 responded to a report of a leaking propane tank that supplied a BBQ. Firefighters found that the owner had not tightened the set screw when he filled the bottle, and it leaked. Engine 38 repaired the valve and confirmed that the leak had stopped.

Aug. 2

Aid call: 11:20 a.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 and Medic 6 treated a patient in the early stages of heart failure, then an ambulance transported the person to ARMC.
