Fire & rescue blotter | July 17

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 212 calls for service between July 6 and July 12, among them the following:

July 6

Shooting: 9:33 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters and Medic 6 to help two young men who had had been shot. Firefighters treated the first young man, who had been shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen with a hand gun, then transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. American Medical Response treated the second youth for a gunshot wound to his hand and transported him to ARMC.

July 7

Aid call: 4:25 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to a report of a female, general age not given, who thought someone might have slipped her heroin or crack cocaine three days earlier. Personnel monitored her vitals, checked for injuries and determined that she was well enough to stay home. They advised her to see her family physician for followup.

Aid call: 2:45 p.m., (Pacific). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to help a patient with a rapid heart rate. Firefighters examined the patient then American Medical Response transported him to ARMC in stable condition.

July 9

Fire: 2:33 p.m., (Auburn): Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a grass fire near Highway 18. A driver passing by the eastbound Highway 18 onramp had seen a pile of hay smoldering on the side of the road. Before firefighters got there, however, a Washington State Patrol Trooper had used his portable fire extinguisher to smother the blaze.

July 10

Fryer fire: 12:23 p.m., (Algona). Valley dispatched numerous firefighters to a manufacturing facility in the 1100 block of Industry Drive North in Algona for reports of a fire in a large commercial fryer. On location, firefighters found that the building’s sprinkler system had extinguished the fire. When firefighters confirmed that the flames had not spread, they cleared the building of smoke.

July 11

Aid call: 2:35 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a man having respiratory distress at the Supermall determined that the man was having an anxiety attack. They spent time talking to him and calming him down before releasing him to family members.

July 12

Auto collision: 6:39 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded with Auburn Police to a single-car accident off the roadway at the corner of Knickerbocker Drive and West Valley Highway with possible injuries. Personnel found the driver to be uninjured, but the passenger had sustained a significant head injury. Firefighters secured the patient with a backboard and c-collar and transported him to ARMC.
