The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 217 calls for service between July 13 and July 19, among them the following:

July 13

Aid call: 7:47 a.m., (Pacific). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a report of an ill male in Pacific. They found a patient complaining about feeling weak and dizzy. They examined him and American Medical Response brought him to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

July 14

Burn injuries: 5:33 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Valley Com dispatched Engine 32 to an automatic fire alarm in an apartment building. A female resident had dropped a spray paint can in her laundry room, breaking the tip. The aerosolized paint spray filled the room with fumes that a clothes dryer then in operation ignited, creating a flash fire. One sprinkler head in the laundry room activated and quickly extinguished the small fire, but the woman suffered serious burn injuries to her face and hands. King County Medic One transported the woman to Harborview Medical Center’s burn center and firefighters helped clear the water from the area.

July 15

Motorcycle collision: 6:30 p.m., (Lea Hill). Valley Com dispatched firefighters and paramedics to a single motorcycle crash at 30500 Green River Road Southeast. Firefighters found a man with multiple life-threatening injuries. Personnel quickly stabilized the man, and Airlift Northwest transported him to Harborview Medical Center.

July 16

House fire: 10:25 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters responding to a report of a house fire in the 600 block of Algona Boulevard North found flames shooting through the roof of a single-story manufactured home. The occupants had all gotten out safely before help arrived and nobody was hurt. Firefighters contained the fire to the area of origin. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.

July 18

Aid call: 2:06 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters were participating in the Algona Days celebration on 1st Avenue in Algona when an Algona police officer flagged them down. The officer told firefighters that a man had been bitten by a dog. Firefighters treated the man at the scene for minor injuries.

July 19

Building fire: 5:08 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a front balcony on fire in the 3100 block of “I” St N.E. found that the fire had started between the front fascia and front ledger board of the second story balcony. Firefighters knocked down the initial fire and then removed an approximately 14 foot long section on the railing. Investigators determined that the probable cause of the fire was the improper disposal of a cigarette, which created enough heat to start the fire.
