Poetry at The Station Bistro presents the works of Jeannine Hall Gailey and Dawn-Marie Oliver on Monday, Aug. 5.
The program is from 7-9 p.m. at the Bistro, 110 Second St. SW, No. 125, one block south of West Main Street, on the east side of the Auburn Transit Center.
Coffee and conversation follow readings. It is an open mic opportunity. The public is invited.
About the poets
Gailey is the poet laureate of Redmond and the author of three books of poetry: “Becoming the Villainess”, “She Returns to the Floating World”, and her latest, “Unexplained Fevers”. Her work has been featured on NPR’s The Writer’s Almanac, Verse Daily, and The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror. Her poetry has appeared in journals like The American Poetry Review, The Iowa Review, and Prairie Schooner, and she reviews books for The Rumpus. Her website is www.webbish6.com.
Oliver, meanwhile, is a poem-writing, motorcycle-riding, book-devouring, picture-taking escapee from Minnesota.
Only published in obscure northern-Minnesota college-lit rags, Oliver dreams of sparking a poetry revolution, with poetry sold on street corners, and poets treated as the celebrities they are.
Her inspirations are as varied as the names of the stars, from the teen poets she’s met, to Hekate and Hestia of Greek mythology, to the depressing reality of the evening news.
Her most strongly-held belief is that you are your own fairy godmother.
