The Auburn School District’s Ladies in Leadership Seminar engaged students in December at the Performing Arts Center.

The seminar’s mission is to foster leadership in young women in an effort to change the status of male-dominated leadership in today’s society.

Guest speakers included Nancy Backus, the first female mayor of Auburn; Melanie Stambaugh, R-Puyallup (District 25), the youngest state Representative in the state at age 25; and DeAnna Kilga, vice principal at Auburn High School.

All staff members were encouraged to nominate female students who either were leaders or where leadership potential was identified. Around 170 students were nominated, around 50 attended.
