Library offers online tutoring, other homework, test help

King County Library offers free help with SAT, WASL and homework questions.

In partnership with Brainfuse, KCLS is offering a new online tutoring service to help students identify their strengths and weaknesses on the SAT and WASL tests. Students may log on using their library cards and take practice tests, review study tips, or receive help from qualified tutors in all subject areas. All tutors are trained to understand the particulars of the Washington state standards.

The WASL Learning Plan includes skills assessments in the following subjects:

• Reading: Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10

• Writing: Grades 4, 7 and 10

• Math: Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10

• Science: Grades 5, 8 and 10

There will be multiple choice and short answer essay questions. Multiple choice questions will be answered immediately by the tutor with a guided learning plan and the essay questions will be graded separately and returned within 24 hours.

The SAT test preparation will include assessment, skills building, critical reading, sentence completion, writing and mathematics. Students will receive one-on-one skills building with lessons from live tutors. Those lessons will focus on skill groups as identified by The College Board. Brainfuse tutors are available from 1-10 p.m., seven days a week.

KCLS also has offers online tutoring through Tutor.com. Students in grades K-12, entry level college and adult learners can receive specialized one-on-one tutoring help in the areas of math, science, English and social studies.  This service is also available in Spanish.  Professional tutors are available online from 2:00 pm to midnight, seven days a week.

If students are looking for free face-to-face tutoring, they can find help through King County Library Systems Study Zone program. Study Zone is a homework-assistance program for Kindergarten through 12th grade students. Students can study, do homework and get help with their questions. Study Zone is available Sundays through Thursdays at the Auburn Library and Wednesdays at the Algona-Pacific Library.
