Memorial honors Dwight Clark

More than 500 people packed Grace Community Church in Auburn this past Sunday to remember the life of Auburn teen Dwight Clark.

Clark, a freshman at Western Washington University, went missing after attending an off-campus part in Bellingham on Sept. 26. Ten days later, on Oct. 6, Clark’s body was discovered in Bellingham Bay. At the service, several of Clark’s closest friends spoke and his family was presented with a skateboard deck illustrated with a portrait of Clark.

Friends and family of Clark have plans to keep his memory alive by raising money to build a skate park in his honor, family spokesperson Pennie Saum said.

“We’re going to be doing fundraiser events, like concerts and spaghetti feeds,” she said. “It was something Dwight and several of his friends had a dream of doing, and in his memory we thought it would be a good idea to continue. We want to help kids by giving them a safe place to go.”

Donations to the Dwight Clark Fund can be made at any Chase Bank.
