An early morning fire severely damaged a vacant mobile home Wednesday morning in Auburn.

Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to a report of a fire at River Mobile Estates in the 3600 block of I Street Northeast. A neighbor noticed smoke coming from the home at 8:11 a.m. and called 911. She then contacted the homeowners, a husband and wife, who were not home at the time.

VRFA firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the 1,600-square-foot mobile home. Fire crews entered the home and quickly extinguished the fire. A search of the home determined it to be unoccupied.

The most probable cause of the fire was a soldering iron left too close to combustibles. Damage is estimated at $80,000 to structure and contents.

The homeowners will be staying with relatives.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.
