The Outlet Collection | Seattle has awarded $5,000 in cash donations to Holy Family School, Valley Christian School and Lea Hill Elementary School through its Earning for Learning program.

The Outlet Collection | Seattle has awarded $5,000 in cash donations to Holy Family School, Valley Christian School and Lea Hill Elementary School through its Earning for Learning program.

Shoppers rose to the occasion by turning in receipts from their back-to-school purchases at the Auburn mall in support of the local school of their choice.

The Outlet Collection awarded the top three Earning for Learning schools – Valley Christian School, Holy Family School and Lea Hill – $1,000 each.

Throughout the program, weekly leaders were awarded with $500 leading up to the final week.

“We are incredibly proud to support education in the local area through this community-wide effort,” said Christian Faltenberger, general manager at The Outlet Collection | Seattle. “The Outlet Collection | Seattle continues to make strides when it comes to assisting in charitable initiatives as well as offering a great selection of shopping, dining and entertainment options for everyone to enjoy.”

Honor roll

The Auburn School District Board of Directors recently recognized Amanda Roberson, counselor at Lakeland Hills Elementary, for her outstanding service. Roberson has been a counselor in the district for 14 years. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Puget Sound.

Roberson enjoys working with children and all of the different components that make up her counseling job. She teaches anti-bullying, conflict resolution, grief lessons, personal safety, on-line safety and more. She also coordinates online and highly capable testing. She helps families and students with a wide variety of needs. “There is so much joy in my job,” Roberson said. …

The school board also recognized Liana Onishchenko, a fourth-grader at Dick Scobee Elementary, for being an outstanding student. Onishchenko goes above and beyond to help others. She offers her recess time to be a lunch helper and to help kindergarten students. She is bilingual and often helps her peers who have limited English skills. She puts 100 percent effort into every task she is given.

The following Washington State University students from Auburn earned their undergraduate degrees following summer semester: Paul Collop (bachelor of science, psychology); Kimberly Coon (B.S., kinesiology); Jordan Gronsky (bachelor of arts, communication); Zachary Leyda (B.A., business administration); Mackenzie Maynard (B.A., business administration); Mackenzie Maynard (B.A., communication); Donald Quinn (B.A., social sciences); and Jesse Rockey (B.S., civil engineering).
