Pacific loses an icon in beloved Nellie Hollingsworth

Pacific lost an iconic member of its community, Nellie Hollingsworth, and in honor of her, the City is asking flags to be flown at half-staff through Friday evening, Mayor Richard Hildreth said.

Pacific lost an iconic member of its community, Nellie Hollingsworth, and in honor of her, the City is asking flags to be flown at half-staff through Friday evening, Mayor Richard Hildreth said.

Hollingsworth, wife of the Art Hollingsworth and a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away last Saturday. She was 98.

Art, who passed away in 2006 at 101, and Nellie were married in 1929. They settled in Pacific.

In recognition of their strong belief in family and dedication to the community, the picnic shelter at Pacific Park is named the Hollingsworth Family Cabana.

During their marriage of more than 78 years, Nellie and Art had four sons – William, Dewey, Patrick and George. They had 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life is 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the Pacific Community (Senior) Center, 100 3rd Ave. SE, Pacific. Any donation in her remembrance can be made to the center.
