Pacific organizers look to reschedule candidates debate

Organizers for the City of Pacific candidates forum are exploring a new day to run the debate. They hope to soon announce the official rescheduled date.

Organizers for the City of Pacific candidates forum are exploring a new day to run the debate. They hope to soon announce the official rescheduled date.

The forum, originally scheduled for Oct. 12, was moved to the week of Oct. 17. Mayor Richard Hildreth was unable to make that week because it conflicted with an executive leaders program class at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security, which had been scheduled since February.

Based on voter emails, residents want to hear from each candidate in person.

Hildreth, who is seeking a third term in office, faces challenger John Jones, the City Council president.

Kevin Cline is challenging incumbent Joshua Putnam for Council position No. 6.

Organizers are looking into the availability of the Pacific gymnasium for an evening in October.

Volunteers also are needed to help set up and take down chairs and cleanup. Community service hours for high school students can be arranged.
