Twice over the past week, Pacific has been shaken by two reported drive-by shootings.

No one was injured in the incidents, according to authorities.

“Although it is extremely rare in the city of Pacific, we too are subject to some of the violence that we see in larger cities,” said Mayor Richard Hildreth.

Multiple rounds were fired into a home in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Southwest at approximately 12:55 a.m. on May 12. Police said the sole occupant of the home was not hit, although many of the rounds passed through exterior walls near him. The occupant is not suspected of any criminal activity, and it is believed the shooters targeted the wrong home, police said.

At approximately 7 p.m. on May 13, a shooter fired a round from a vehicle at or near a group near the basketball court at Pacifica Apartments. The shooting is suspected to be related to an earlier assault involving a group of young adults, police said. A woman was arrested in the incident.

Hildreth said his city has been working the Coalition of Small Police Agencies to tackle the program. The coalition is providing the city with additional investigators, a major crimes task force and if needed, a high-risk entry team. The coalition includes 14 small police agencies in King County.

“Most of the gang activity we see in our city has been marking of territory, which is why we aggressively remove graffiti around the city, and some drug activity,” Hildreth said. “Our city has a zero tolerance policy as it comes to any gang activity, and so far we have been able to stay on top of most of it.”
