Through the generosity of a few skillful knitters in Pacific, wounded soldiers are receiving some comforts of home. Members of Pacific/Algona Seniors “Touch of Home” program were honored for their work and generosity at the Pacific City Council meeting Tuesday night.

The group meets regularly at the City’s community center to knit wool lap robes for wounded soldiers recovering in hospitals here and abroad. The volunteers also produce helmet liners for soldiers and stuffed bears for victims of crimes.

“Our troops are very appreciative of their efforts,” said Col. Mike Johnson of the Washington Army National Guard, who was on hand at Pacific City Hall to award plaques to the special knitters.

“It’s a wonderful program.”

The program was recognized by Maj. Gen. Timothy Lowenberg, the Adjutant General and commander of all Washington Army and Air National Guard forces, and Brig. Gen. Gordon D. Toney, commander of the Washington Army National Guard.
