Pioneer Elementary School has been awarded the Washington Reading Corps Grant for the 2012-2013 school year.
The mission of the Washington Reading Corps program is to improve reading abilities of young students across Washington through research-based tutoring of struggling readers and effective collaboration among schools, families, community members, national service, business and state partners.
Pioneer will receive the support of 10 AmeriCorps members to help students at Pioneer improve their reading skills.

Michael Everson,23, of Auburn, has been awarded a Leona Hickman Educational Trust for $2,000 to Eastern Washington University. The award is given to a continuing EWU student with a 3.8 or higher GPA and has a hometown in the King County area. Everson, a 2007 Auburn Mountainview graduate, is a junior working toward a degree in mechanical engineering at EWU, where he is also involved in the American Society of Mechanical Engineering. Everson is the son of Vicki Nishimoto and John Everson.
