Poetry at the Rainbow Café presents the works of Sibyl James and Michael Heavener on Monday, Sept. 5.

The program is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the café, 112 E. Main St.

Coffee and conversation follow readings. It is an open mic opportunity. The public is invited.

About the poets

Sibyl James is the author of 11 books – poetry, fiction and travel memoirs – including “In China with Harpo and Karl” (Calyx Books), “he Adventures of Stout Mama” (Papier-Mache Press), “China Beats” (Egress Studio Press), and, most recently “The Grand Piano Range” (Black Heron Press).

She has taught at colleges in the U.S., China, Mexico, and – as Fulbright professor – Tunisia and Cote d´Ivoire. Her writing has received awards from Artist Trust and the Seattle, King County and Washington State arts commissions.

Michael Heavener, president of the Redmond Association of Spokenword, has had his poetry published in the Raven Chronicles “Laugh, Laugh, Laugh” edition and the RASP Anthology. His work has been featured on radio programs that discussed the effect of poetry on emotions in the wake of major life events such as the loss of a parent.
