Shoplifting: 3:34 p.m., 1101 Supermall Way S.W. Police arrested a man for shoplifting a leather coat valued at $220 from Burlington Coat Factory at the Supermall. The male had various warrants for his arrest as well and was invited to familiarize himself with the interior of the Auburn Jail.

Robbery with firearm: 7:55 p.m., 1307 Auburn Way N. An unidentified male — young, old, police didn’t say — tried to rob Sally’s Beauty Supply. The male showed the employees a black handgun tucked behind his belt and demanded they give him money out of the registers. The male left the business without any cash or merchandise. Police didn’t offer a description.

Somebody trying to break in to a man’s home while he was away from work kicked a front door panel in before the prospect of the man’s great big, highly motivated, impressively fanged dog forced the would-be burglar to reconsider his or her course of action.
