Police blotter | May 8

Auburn police responded to the following calls between May 4 and May 5:

May 4

Vandalism: 9:58 a.m., 700 block of West Main Street. Somebody vandalized in some way a vehicle belonging to someone else, gender not given, resulting in damages unspecified.

Green thief: Overnight, 30300 block of 112th Place Southeast. Somebody has been stealing away with plants and planters from a yard belonging to someone else.

Theft from motor vehicle: 1:32 p.m., 200 block of 37th Street Southeast. A man reported that between Aug 15 and Aug. 16, 2008, somebody smashed the side window of his truck to get in, then swiped his birth certificate and vehicle papers. Why he took so long to report the crime police did not say.

Theft from motor vehicle: 2:29 p.m., 700 block of West Valley Highway South. An unknown person smashed a side window to gain entry to somebody’s car at the Peasley Canyon Park and Ride, a frequent spot for thieving window smashers. The thief caused $200 damage to the window and snuck off with a $200 stereo.

Assault with a knife: 3:29 p.m., 600 Fifth Street Southeast. Police arrested a 16-year-old boy for assaulting somebody — police didn’t say whom — with a knife.

Vandalism: 3:50 p.m., 1101 Supermall Way S.W. Somebody keyed somebody else’s truck, damaging the paint.

Vandalism by egg: 6:14 a.m., 100 block of O Street Northeast. Somebody egged somebody else’s vehicles.

Assault: 3:29 p.m., 600 block of 5th Street Southeast. A man pushed a young person — boy or girl, police didn’t say — and used ethnic slurs against him or her. Police have forwarded charges to the prosecutor for review.

Burglary: Overnight, 325 E. Main St. The rear door to a church was found forced open in the morning. There were no suspects, and nothing was reported missing.

May 5

Strong arm robbery: 1:39 p.m., 1702 Auburn Way N. Police arrested a man for robbing the north end Top Food & Drug store. The suspect did not pay for merchandise and used force to assault employees while trying to remove Rockstar energy drinks from the store.

Vandalism: 6:10 p.m., 3500 block of Auburn Way South. Bad guys broke into a women’s shed and marked up the walls.

Assault: 8:28 p.m., 200 block of A Street Southwest. One asked another man for some money, smacked him in the face a couple times and fled before police got there.

Assault: 9:12 p.m., 1100 Auburn Way S. A man intimidated a boy into drinking a beer in Les Gove Park, then pushed him down and punched him in the face, stomach and legs. The assailant then left the area while the victim and a friend and the victim’s mother phoned 911. While they were waiting for police, the man returned, swinging nunchuks at them before taking off for a nearby gas station. Friends of the victim confronted the suspect at the gas station where police arrested him for assault, furnishing liquor to a minor and for illegally displaying a dangerous weapon.
